@IronBlade#88934 It is a scam, the message they leave is just as deceptive as any Indian tech support scam going.
They go out of their way to sound like the federal government or maybe some kind of nonprofit connected to the government, ask your FSA ID when you call, all very deceptive.
They say in their message that the recent government shutdown, and some other recent event have changed things as far as student loan forgiveness goes - both of these statements are outright lies, student loan forgiveness as it exists today was put in place during the Obama administration, and it has not changed in any way since.
Finally, the entire concept of paying them anything in the hopes that they might be able to get your student loans forgiven, is in essence a scam, even if they have found some way to stay on the right side of the law (which is doubtful).
Student Loan Forgiveness applies to two very specific groups:
1) People who have "paid as agreed" on their student loans for 10 years continuously
2) People who have become completely and permanently disabled
People in the first group just fill out a one-page form, or spend 5 minutes online punching in some info, wait a week or two, then get back a letter saying congrats, your loans are all forgiven.
People in group two, they are largely identified by Social Security, people on SSD or SSI who have their case reviewed every 5-7 years or more infrequently, are in the category of those who aren't expected to ever recover from their disability, i.e. permanently disabled, and they'd be forgiven of their student loan debt pretty routinely.
Anybody who is permanently disabled but for some reason, does not have SSA in agreement on this, or SSA is paying benefits to them, but they haven't yet been pushed up into the "not expected to ever recover" category, doctor letters/documentation helps and can be submitted too.
NOBODY ELSE QUALIFIES FOR STUDENT LOAN FORGIVENESS!
Because these very two, very specific groups of people that are both extreme, minuscule minorities are the only people who qualify... and because you can rule someone out as qualifying for student loan forgiveness in 20 seconds of questioning, it really just turns these guys' whole thing into a scam, if the other stuff didn't. There is NO MONEY to be made in helping people with Student Loan Forgiveness, UNLESS YOU ARE RUNNING AN OUTRIGHT SCAM.
These guys really are just as bad or worse as any Indian Tech Support scam, biggest difference is they are ripping off their own countrymen, people just like them, in the same predicament
