Baiting with virtual machine
HIGHLIGHTS FROM VIRTUAL MACHINE BAIT:
- The scammer, “Jay Brown,” answered as “suppoat” for McAfee and Norton. As there was no invoice information presented, I falsely claimed I was being billed for a $454.54 McAfee auto-renewal and was asked to provide my name and email address.
- “Jay” then connected me to the “McAfee Fraudulent Department,” as your “information was compromised on the dark web.” In order to “cancel” and “close the accounts,” I was asked to “open the Google Chrome” and download Support.me from McAfee TechMaster (Code: 738373).
- Once “Jay” remotely connected to my virtual machine, he claimed the Microsoft Shopping service built into Microsoft Edge was malicous and ran a “security scan” through the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s “Cover my Tracks.”
- “Jay” then opened the notepad to write down his personal Twilo number, (833) 397-2817 and attempted to enroll me in a 3-year McAfee protection plan from Qikbay Technician for $279. I played him the Bhenchod Song.
“Qikbay Digital Storefront” is a subisidary of Jinigram, LLC, a computer consultant that claims to operate from a WeWork Office Space in San Mateo, California under the leadership of Tarun Gaur (pictured) and Imran Khan. The scammers also claim to operate out of New York City as Tringapps, Inc., though almost all of their employees operate out of India.
