Scammer’s Number: 888-379-1992

Extra Info: Hold tight, this is a pretty elaborate impersonation call. It starts with a cold call from a guy with very thick Indian accent confirming that I’m a Comcast customer. I said yes, and he said he was calling me to offer me a promo for the next 2 years for only $50 a month for 1 Gig internet speed and all the premium channels on my TV. I said great, I’ll take it. He passed my call on to the senior manager (closer).
The senior spoke better English, and said that this is a special promo that will obviously lose them money, and so they got eBay to co-sponsor the promo. In order to avail of this loss leader, I need to go to the nearest Dollar General, Best Buy or other stores that sell eBay gift cards and get $200 worth of gift cards to pay for the first 4 months of my new service. I won’t get billed by Xfinity until November.
I said, please explain each and everything to me, I need the details so I will get this great internet speed at less than what I pay now. So here’s the deal. When you get the gift cards, call 888-379-1992 and provide them with Promo Code CAX14172.
I called the 888 number, and WOW - they cloned the Xfinity IVR aka automated attendant. I don’t think it matters which number you press, you’ll end up with a scammer eager to take your eBay gift card number.
I have reported this to Xfinity security department and even had the agent listen to the fraudster’s IVR. They’ll get on it right away, but I think we can do better, right?
