They call and offer you a 50% discount on your current bill for the next 2 years. The catch is they’ll ask you to prepay the first 10 months’ bill in advance, in gift cards. The IVR is probably a clone of the real company’s, so it sounds authentic. Don’t be fooled. Last year Deyo made a Youtube video on DirectTV scam, exactly the same as this one on Xfinity. There are two big fake AT&T and Comcast scammers. One in Chandigarh, India and the second in Lahore, Pakistan. This number connects to Lahore, Pakistan.
Just for fun, when the scammer answered I greeted him with “assalamu alaikum” and he responded rather automatically (like saying “bless you” after someone sneezes) “wa-alaikum-salaam". (I said peace be with you, and the response means and also with you, or something to that effect, anyway.) I proceeded to bring up the devastating floods, and we had a rather respectful conversation. Scammer said he has a degree in Computer Science, but can’t find a good job in Lahore. Wouldn’t admit that he’s a scammer, though.
