Work from home job scam

phone number was 707-957-0609

Here is the scammers text message, they also send a convincing employment letter, then sends a W4 form to steal the social security number and info. Tells you they will send you a check for equipment reimbursement and want you to pay upfront. It’s a silly scam. I didn’t fall for it, but many others may. The employment letter looks like it comes from the hr division of gmp but it’s not. It’s only posing.

@mustacherider#75981 is there any phone number that is associated with this scam? How did they contact you? Via text message / SMS or email?

Edit: I added the phone number to the first post.

If there was an easy way to make loads of money, everyone would already be doing it.

@NeeP#75985 thanks. It was via text. I think they found it through my monster.com resume posting

This scam is still happening, I almost got caught up in it, thankfully, I forgot to include my SSN on the W4 sent.

Either the recruiter was impersonating a small business, or the number originated from this website: Big Lagoon Pound Down Surf Off presented by The Shop | Lost Coast Outpost | Humboldt County News

Job scams are becoming increasingly ubiquitous these days. It was CareerBuilder where those “administration/date entry specialist” roles kept cropping up for me. In my experience, it was either some Filipino or Nigerian pretending to be someone from a small business that they’re impersonating. Best to keep a sharp eye out, because if the job description sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.
