What is this?

I have a honeypot email designed for getting spam emails. I’ve been getting a few weird emails from gmail address. They all go something like this: ([MYEMAILUSERNAME] being the name of my email account)

Subject: [MYEMAILUSERNAME]
Body: hi what is your name?

or

Subject: [MYEMAILUSERNAME]
Body: Hello [MYEMAILUSERNAME], I'm from Clifton.

What is this all about?

Without a doubt spam or phishing attempt. Expand the header content of the email…

How to read email full headers

  1. Open the email you want to check the headers for.
  2. Next to Reply Reply, click More and then") Show original .
  3. Copy the text on the page.
  4. Open the Message header tool.
  5. In “Paste email header here,” paste your header.
  6. Click Analyze the header above .

What’s the phishing email address? I might be able to get a location on the scammer. I can’t guarantee it, but let’s be hopeful.

Looks like a bot gmail address:

[email protected]

Raw email:

<div dir="ltr">Hello spamsearch, I&#39;m from Clifton.</div>

Is there a way to report Gmail accounts to Google?

Yes, I Have google 1 So I Have direct comms with them. However they ask that you send them a report from the email associated with the Spam email but you should try to communicate with them first hand and see what they want you to do.

Good question! I report “phishing” emails to them all the time, yet still get them. Lazy incompentents?

I tried reporting a business site to Google. It didn’t work out for me so I had to give up. Is there a fix for that?

I Mean https://ic3.gov or The Registar. They most likely will not do much but log it.
