On April 16, 2026, the New Windsor Police Department in New York arrested 46-year-old Brooklyn resident Wenxi Wang for serving as a money mule for an Apple refund scam operation, where
- The scammers will call their victims under the false personation of Apple employees, demanding $30,000 to resolve purported “unauthorized charges.”
- In order to pay the scammers back, the victim was asked to withdraw money from their bank account and hand it off to a designated courier, or money mule.
Wang was arrested and charged with attempted 3rd-degree grand larceny, though has since been released on an appearance ticket.
