Weirdest call ever

Got a call from +593 99 589 5834 today. But, I have no idea what it is. They called, I picked up and it hung up quickly. So I called back and it sounds like a man with a thick accent and an American woman speaking about something…I haven’t the slightest clue what they’re talking about but I’m going to guess it’s something racy.

So, I called back and it was the same voices again, saying the same prompts! So it's a recording. Can anyone tell me what this number could possibly be used for? It's a number from Ecuador, which strange because I live in the US and never receive calls from foreign area codes.

Just tried calling it a minute ago, but it was unavailable. I tried to conference in my Asterisk server so that I could record it but my cell phone wouldn’t allow me to do that for some reason (probably has something to do with it being a number from a different country). Guess I’ll try again tomorrow.

Interesting. Whenever I get foreign calls on my landline, it shows up as ‘out of area’ with no number…

From Ecuador. Some International numbers if you dial, the phone company of the foreign country bills $10-$20 per minute (les or more) . The scammer and the corrupt foreign phone company split the loot.

@drwat#86363 Interesting. So, you think this may be a scheme to keep people on for as long as possible so they can trick people into thinking they are listening to a private conversation thus racking their phone bill profits up? I never thought of that, but nothing surprises me when it comes to desperate people looking for desperate ways to make money.

@sbirdsill#86426 Yes. This occurs from very small nations (typically island nations) where the Governments are weak. and the fraudsters prevail
