Got a call on my answering machine today from 800-64X-7676. Super typical refund scam. I call the number, and it’s an extremely realistic automated thing claiming to be Microsoft, which is weird because my computer is a Mac and the tech support scam baiting I do is all fake apple support. I finally get through the automated thing, get to a real person (callback number is 425-635-2970), and I explain that I’m got a voicemail about a refund, guy explains that it’s a scam and to ignore it, Microsoft never calls anybody, etc. But I googled both numbers, results say it’s a scam. So called them back, same thing. Weird.
@DaleIntimidator3#109327 Whichever scammer decided to call you, altered their caller ID to Microsoft’s official customer service phone number before calling you. 1-800-64X-7676 leads to the real Microsoft and has for quite awhile, so you were talking to a legitimate person both times you called back. I just remember, that whenever I see a phone number end in 7676, it’s most likely is Microsoft’s.
