So this number claims to be UK Norton Tech support
When it was first sent to me, I posted it on scammer.info as a scam number but took it down after a few hours out of an abundance of caution as Bandwidth’s customer (reseller) claimed the number was a legit Norton support number.
my colleage called A Genuine UK Norton customer services number and was told by the agent that the number did not belong to Norton, the recording was forwarded to the reseller who stated that the agents were not aware of UK numbers but the number was Norton. (in spite of my colleague calling the UK number)
I then also called the Norton UK customer services number, the agent said she did extensive research and checked with her managers and they were unable to find any record of the number.
I sent this new recording to Bandwidth and they forwarded it to the reseller.
The reseller repeated that the agents would not know the Norton numbers, saying he had checked with Norton himself and they had confirmed it was legit.
I then asked Bandwidth to ask the reseller for the Norton phone number he called to verify the legitimacy of this number, he refused to provide the number but asked for my email address.
At this point I told Bandwidth to send my email along with a request for an email from a Norton rep I could verify.
As I don’t want to waste any more of Bandwidth’s time, I told them to close the ticket.
Now, if Norton had sent me an email as the reseller suggested, I would not be posting this here, the reseller has the oportunity to prove to me the number is genuine but I have received no such assurances.
I therefore conclude that this is a fake Norton tech support number, if anyone can help verify that it is a. scammers or b. legit I would be very appreciative.
In the unlikely event that it is legit, I would like to apologise to the reps there who endured many, many calls where I played clips of scammers singing baby shark (lasting 5-8 minutes) and a 25 minute rant where I constantly asked to speak to a supervisor (request refused) what legit company would tolerate 25 minutes of abuse from anyone? the rep said he was not allowed to hang up.
