On May 5, 2025, police in Udaipur, India raided an illegal call center that operated out of the Hotel Sapphire in Dhan Kotda to facilitate what is defined as a “first of it’s kind” Amazon refund scam, where
- Canadian residents received fraudulent text messages regarding “undelivered parcels” in their name.
- The victims will be asked to “verify” their information by scanning a QR code, which is actually used to deposit money to the crypto wallet of Ahmedabad resident Deepu Patel, who has reported connections with senior officials with Gujarat police.
41 scammers were arrested: 32 men and 9 women. Four Gujarati managers were identified as:
- Harsh Patel from Ghatlodia
- Ashish Rajput from Bapunagar
- Keyul Shah from Naranpura
- Dhamil Shah of Satellite.
