Scam Number: (202) 643-9856
Scammer’s Website or Email: none
Additional information about this scam: So I started my call by asking: “Is this a loan? Do I have to pay it back?” Then the scammer said, it is not a loan, then she asked for my approval ID number, which I did not have. I acted confused and since that is very easy for me she believed me and started her script. This is a fake “loyalty grant” for $9000 given out by the govt to those who pay their bills, those who are orphaned, and those who lost their job.
She said I could go to Walmart to receive the money and when I asked if I could get a check she hung up.
The VM says this number is the “treasure dept”.
They want gift cards.
@Sol They called me names and said mean things to me!!

I am hurt that they hurt your feelings. Really foul mouthed as per usual.
Femscammer fell for the dog ate the confirmation note. Did you know the Census is done every year? She never even bothered to give me a name when she answered. To get the grant you have togo to a convienence store and get a one time federal registration Google Play card. How can people fall for this?
The one I was talking to said her name is Michelle, she accused me of having ‘memory problems’…

You know what a sensitive guy I am.
I know, It’s hard to believe. Last year, Americans lost more than $80 billion dollars to phone scams alone, and they expect it to exceed 100 billion this year. Sadly, people do fall for it. I think part of it is ignorance, but I think a large majority is that people don’t realize that such evil exists in this world. It is the kindest, the most trusting that walk among us who fall for these scams. They don’t comprehend that there are human beings who don’t care if you can eat, they don’t care if you cannot feed your family, they don’t care if you can’t buy medication you may need to live. People don’t want to think that such despicable, selfish human beings inhabit this spinning mud puddle that we call Earth.
It’s funny, a good friend of mine is Indian and most of his family is still in India. Today, there is a big celebration in India. “The world is our family, love and respect everyone”
Yet, it hasn’t slowed down anyone in the call centers today
Well said Tim, very accurate.
And yes, very hard to believe these ludicrous scenarios.
Some might say that only the elderly fall for scams, but there are people of all ages who trust someone’s word. Might be a generational thing or not, but people of all ages can be trusting. Many people are just innocent, maybe even naiive, some are extremely religious and maybe cannot fathom the thought of someone over the phone possibly lying to them (since lying is a sin).
