Thomas, a Ghanaian romance scammer

On September 1, 2025, I was tipped on a video by Rinoa Poison in a Ghanaian romance scammer catfishing victims on Facebook by impersonating celebrities such as Paul Hollywood from the Great British Bake-off and demanding $3,000.

The scammer, Thomas, who also went under the name of “Nelson M. Douglas,” falsely claims to be a 20-year veteran with the United States Army, stationed in Syria on a “contract mission” with $4 million held by the Syrian government. In order to come back home, “Nelson” will demand that his victim hand $3,000 to a designated courier, or money mule or pay $6,000 to a “Bank of American” account, in exchange for a “share” of his “house.”

This was just one of many instances in which Thomas attempted to scam people, as he operated at least 153 different accounts and scams as many as 25 per day, all whilst using ChatGPT to make it look like he was fluent in English.
