This Refund Scam was unusual. Here's why

So during my vacation in Miami, FL, I got a call from a number starting with the area code “508”. I’ve been getting these calls before, but I never answer them, which is most likely the best option. I answered it on purpose. When I answered, I got the typical pre-recorded robotic voice of the Refund scam, where they’ll make up a fake name and say what fake company they’re calling you from, and that they’re calling you from the refund department. As always, you have to press 1 to speak to a “live agent” when in reality you would be speaking to Humpty Dumpty. When I pressed 1, the recording played again. At one point I pressed 2 by accident, but just kept tapping 1 and the pre-recording kept playing. So maybe their VOIP system was malfunctioning. It was hilariously funny to repeatedly touch “1” and “2” accidentally at one point.
