The Depressing Thing about Scambaiting

File this under the "This is why we can't have nice things" Dept.

It really bums me out how we have a small number of these neurotic creatures in our community who apparently do not seem to care much about scammers or going after them, but are far, FAR more obsessed with going after other scambaiting circles.

Forget that there's 96,000 scambaiting Discords and nearly none of the groups get along, or that 9 out of 10 scambaiting Youtubers hate/despises or is clinically skeptical of every other scambaiting Youtuber.

But like in the case with ToxicJames here... people have reached out to TJ to do a mental health check but for some reason he's dead-set on DDoSing us. Nobody on the TLS Discord ever talks about him; nobody ever did anything to him and he's make plenty of attacks against other scambaiters to warrant people being wary of his ass.

He's not an isolated case and I can think of about a half-dozen more people in this category where their talents and skills are essentially functionally useless because they don't ever use them in the common causes we're all doing scambaiting for.

Depressing af, tbqh.

This is just downright dumb. I want to think that every scambaiting YouTuber is a genuinely nice person whose common goal is to take down scamming for good. But unfortunately, that’s just not the case. Many “scambaiting” YouTubers are fake and in it just for the money (looking at you ScammerRevolts and Leo Takas). It’s truly awful that many people still look up to them and see them as heroes.

Don’t forget those scammers who spend as much time as possible to try discrediting scambaiting as a viable method of thwarting them. They like to “pretend” they are against scamming and only target their rival scammer outfits. So they too add to the problem of trust.

@defaulthell#125906 Most of their audience will never really know because they’re not going to jump into scambaiting; the’d rather be entertained by it. I still love my Nikki, Syskey, Ali, Luke, (and I’m forgetting some; but they’re in it to win it)… and they’re doing it because they genuinely care about doing something to show there is a way to go after these scammers and serving justice to annoying illegal telesales ventures that are torturing us. That’s always been a good story to tell.

But with some of these folks I am getting very annoyed with the over-saturation of "_____ DELETED ___GB OF SCAMMER'S FILES DELETED!!!" when 99% of that is recycled old content and fewer and fewer tech support scammers are using TeamViewer with a reversible connection anymore. I've seen enough of the 8-month old scam call repackaged to try to make it look like you just did that call. The content creators have really beat that one-trick clickpony to death to the point of boredom.

But these other warriors who are dead-set on going after scambaiting communities... FFS why are you doing it; what purpose does it serve and why do you think it will make you feel better?

I don't get it.

It amuses me that ScammerBlaster is defending Scammer.info, as he’s guilty of going after scambaiters and trying to destroy communities himself.

@kenzo#125905 It’s funny how at first ToxicJames was DDoSing BobRTC but soon realized that he can’t touch us. A real shame that he’s focusing all that energy into scammer.info instead of us. If you’re reading this, please DDoS us instead of scammer.info… we can take it. If you’re still stupid enough to launch DDoS attacks after getting attention from the UK police, you’re a real dumbass and deserve to be in jail.

I’d like to point out that toxicjames tried to send a 20gbps / 83k pps attack at bobrtc and it did… Nothing. Server didnt even spike for it to show up on our graphs. No calls were dropped, no user even noticed.

Toxicj kept claiming we did something to him, and that's not really true. We let him make an account knowing the full history of his actions because people can change. He attempted to circumvent the security measures of bobrtc and offhandidly mentioned he would send malicious traffic our way. We let you tab dial, and have a hard cap of 100 active calls per account. If you need more or are a LEGITIMATE content creator who wants to do some team baiting live or whatever our dms are open. TJ account tried to probe parts of bobrtc that a normal user cannot do, and the security system correctly disabled his account until we could look at it. At the time we were sleeping. Then we received malicious traffic a few hours after he mentioned he would send it.

So we assumed the malicious traffic was connected to the automated security system disabling his account and he was responsible for the malicious traffic.

We came to this conclusion because:

1- History: ToxicJ history of sending malicious traffic to scammer.info

2- Motive: His account was temporarily disabled by automated security measures. We have these so we can sleep without someone watching the site 24/7.

3- Hearsay: We saw screenshots of him threatening to send malicious traffic dated quickly after his account was disabled and shortly before we received malicious traffic.

If we were wrong about this, then I formally apologize. Could have been a photo shopped screenshot and could have been a false positive caused by a "privacy" add-on that messed with the site. Its a big IF, but again might not have been ToxicJames.

However, the malicious traffic sent by ToxicJ a few days ago was caused and admitted by himself on his twitter account and his account will remain closed.

Let me be clear of what causes account closures, as its a fairly short list.

1- Adding numbers that are not scams. If in doubt hop in the TLS discord and ask a support member. Each and every one of those guys are "Master Baiters" and can identify if it is a scam if you are unsure. Hop in irc and ask us. Slide into my dms. Whatever you need to to.

2- Sending malicious traffic or attempting to circumvent security measures. If you want to do some security research against bobrtc you need our direct permission. Hop in irc, tls discord, my dms, or whatver. Let us know what you are doing, how long you will be doing it for, and any relevant information then we will tell you to email our protonmail so we both have a record of permission being given. Geezer, Kenzo, Terminal, ColdUnwanted, systemXD, deleted, and Livixis are the only people who can give you permission and direct permission is only given through the protonmail. Permission will say something like "such and such account on bobrtc from x to y time can do a sanctioned penetration test." We welcome OFFICIAL security research, we do NOT welcome unofficial security research and will ban you for it. Talk to us, we are friendly!

3- Attempting to use bobrtc for nonscambaiting related things. Attempting to get bobrtc to be "owned" by your group of scambaiters. Preventing other people from using bobrtc. We don't care if you have 200k YouTube subscribers, unless of course you want to do some team dialing with your fans. But we will never be "beholden" or "owned by" your group. We don't work for you, and you don't work for us. We are a tool, like a hammer. The hammer does not care who wields it. It does one thing, it pounds nails.

Its NEARLY impossible to get banned. And if you do, just make another account and earn your way back. We take your privacy seriously so banned accounts are garbage collected once they cross the threshold of being disabled vs being banned. Its gone, no one can get it back.

Please also note: In real situations, we only DISABLE accounts for security violations(sending requests to dial phone numbers that aren’t in our database), sending malicious data to our servers, being an asshole to one of our devs, or posting a number that is obviously not a scam and could get us in legal trouble(like a police station or the suicide hotline). If you avoid these things, have a wonderful time dialing on BobRTC.

The other type of ban, not being allowed to post. While our moderators are calling a listing, we show them how many phone numbers the user has added and how many of those listings have been removed. We use this as a ratio system and calculate a percentage. If you hit about 50%, expect a shadowban. This doesn't mean that you can't dial using BobRTC anymore, this only means that you have been deemed incapable of telling the difference between a legit/scam number or are spamming shit links to gain XP to be able to post.

Let me just say again, spamming shit scammer.info links into our system IS NOT the way to gain XP and gain the ability to post. In fact, it will result in your account loosing the ability to post links and numbers in the future.

If you have any questions, like iScam said, we're all in the scammer.info/TLS Discord. I'm Terminal#0420.

Was it a good idea that i became a scambaiter?

So I’m very new to this, but why in the world would we fight each other? Once all the criminals are gone we can fight over the most self righteous, or the best scambaiter, whatever you wish to call it.

I’ve said this before, but to actually hurt the scammers it seems to take a lot of us, one person can’t beat them all. It is very true there are some tech geniuses who alone could do a lot of damage, but the scammers still outnumber them.

I’m pretty much trying to specialize. There are so many scams out there, I’m good at the student loan ones.
