On November 6, 2025, police in Warsaw, South Dakota arrested 60-year-old Ted W. Connors for facilitating a Facebook grants scam, where:
- Connors or an associate will use a compromised/burner account to trick victims into contacting him on Facebook on the grounds that he gave out “$200,000 grants.”
- Later into their conversation, Connors will tell the victim that “the delivery truck was involved in an accident” and demand the victim send two $1,000 money orders to “release the package,” followed by an additional $19,000.
Connors was arrested on charges of:
- Theft of property between $750 and $50,000 (2 ct)
- Possession of paraphernalia
- Possession of marijuana.
