This is the number my mother-in-law called, after receiving a pop-up alarm from so-called Microsoft. They took her for $2100.00. Interestingly, she paid them by check AND credit card. Please have at them. 800-986-9456

sorry for your loss, please ask your mother in law to dispute the payment since she paid with credit card and tell her to contact the bank as well.
- tfn is being flooded right now and is probably already down.
Awesome! Thank you so much. I would dispute the charges; however, she is unfortunately very happy with what they did for her. She has been taken so many times and doesn’t believe us when we tell her it’s a scam. She lost over $100,000 on the lottery scam.
Update: I’m making headway with her and she now wants to dispute the charges. I need to get the malware off her machine in case they ransom it. McAfee has a removal service for $89. It says they “find and eliminate viruses, Trojans, spyware and other malware.” Do you know if this will break the tie to the tech support scammer?
I'm also wondering if it's possible for the scammer to remote into her machine without her knowing, or does she have to accept the invite each time? I contacted their phone provider and their number has been shut down, but I'm sure that will only slow them down. Not sure what else I can do. Sorry for all the questions; I'm an IT PM and don't know much about this stuff, but I'm learning. Thanks for the advice.
