Got them 1 hour on the phone. Most clueless scammer EVER.

First, I had forgotten to kill virtualbox guest addition service. So when he opened my task tray and it had the obvious VB logo, I thought that was the end of it.

Oh no sir. He missed it completely.

20 minutes later he is showing me the prefetch folder in some extremely convoluted scheme to prove I have viruses. No clue what he was trying to do, changing file associations to open them in notepad. Of all the files in that list he selects a file called SYSKEYFAKE.EXE (that clearly I should have cleaned up). He does notice a problem, he cant open it ROFL. (my notepad.exe is modified)

Almost an hour in, I decide it lasted long enough, and I ask if the license fee for 3 PCs also covers virtual machines. He doesnt understand. I explain to him what a VM is, and that he is connected to my VM. STILL NOTHING. Doesnt get it ROFL

I spent another 15 minutes or so talking to him, trying to explain to him why he is scamming, and Im honestly unsure if he realizes it or not, or does know but didnt dare to be honest because his call would be monitored.

In his defense, he was always courteous, he didnt delete anything, didnt go through my documents, didnt try syskey or whatever. Then again, he wouldnt know how.

Haha! Maybe the result of lack of training. The more ignorant they are, the better. I have a fake syskey and cmd program as well, and have modified other run box commands like event viewer, etc.

Nice try with the reboot, but they need to know what you did before you got the popup. I tell them my son left the computer like that, and that seems to work. I think these popups are hosted on porn sites, might be worth trying to suggest something like that.

@JoeHimself5#89281 Apparently this call back number is spoofing a person in the US. Called them and warned them about the scam using their number as a safe hold

@Garysons#89316 Haha. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

@Emeraldsniper#89361 Then I would request to the moderators to remove that post if it indeed belongs to an actual person and was spoofed.
