Scam Number: 772 251-7703
Cold called my number on the DNC and would give me a company name other than “we are tax group” Wanted to know if I owe back taxes. Upon calling back to get more info, I spoke to a rather rude guy who refused to give me a company name, but wanted all of my personal info.
It is tax season and the scammers are up and runnin’. I am on hold now. I pressed TWO. I then pressed TWO again. Again I had to press TWO again for a LIVE AGENT. Edgar Williams is who answered. Tax Group is name of company. I asked and he said they are in California. I asked the address. He said “Thank you for calling” and hung up. Such a polite criminal! I’m callin’ again to go ballistic on 'em. I searched the phone number in Google but I find no webpage for it. Yeah, they are shady to be sure. Even cold calling people with whom they have not done business is a contravention of federal law from the 1990s.
I was told the same thing. There is no company called, just “Tax Group” that I could find and they refuse to give a location or other information or a website. Last guy told me to “F my mother” and added “I may be a scammer, but at least I don’t owe back taxes.”
And the robo spiel at the beginning says that they do NOT make cold calls … Yeah, right.
Sometimes It does say that, and other times it does not. I’ve spoken to a few more people. They tell me they cannot give me the company name, unless I give them all my information. Then they can switch me to a tax expert who will answer all my questions. That sounds totally legit
