Super paranoid about a tech support scam

Hey there,

I literally just made an account because I am super paranoid about some interactions with a tech support scammer.

Curious about how the scammers scam you, I followed the scammer’s steps (downloaded GoToAssist, put my name, support key, etc) and then when the box that says “do you want to run this app” I had second thoughts and clicked no, but GoToAssist ran anyways. The dude had control of my computer for like 5 seconds and then I disconnected our session.
He proceeded to cuss me out, but I then immediately shut down my laptop.

Now I am super paranoid that he has control of my device and don’t want to turn it on. Am I being stupid? Plz let me know

Always use a virtual machine like Virtualbox or VM Ware when you call them

@sosaix#30444 Yea well I have learned… but if they were on my device for 5 seconds, do you think it was enough time? The guy had a suspicion that I was prank calling, so maybe that changed something…

@Swagkid#30445 I doubt any harm was done as the scammer needs time to think and react. Always use virtual machine and configure the VM to hide all traces which can tell it is a VM. Learn to snapshot the VM.
