By asking the community, other users on this app have messaged me screenshots of the scammers they have gotten in their inbox. These guys are great to mess with on the weekends, they’re desperate enough that I can get a response saturdays and sundays unlike most call centers. It’s worth noting that these scammers appear on dating websites as well, and are relatively similar to those “work from home” scams that pop up on social media.
How this scam works:
They message you in search of a “sugar baby that they can spoil with $blank up to blank times per week”, and give you some BS introduction to set the trap. Some are automated and include the contact info in the original message, some are dependent on getting a response. Upon messaging them on their means of communication, usually What’sApp, Kik, text (usually a google voice number or textnow), more fake information about themselves is supplied, they want an honest partner, they can’t meet in person yet, blah blah blah, your typical scammer copypasta stuff that produces not much more than an eyeroll for those privy to this scam. When they’re done lying through their teeth, they will then start asking information about you, your name, where you work, who you bank with. When push eventually comes to shove, they want to know your bank account details. That’s where the phishing scam lies, and what they do with your details afterwards… Isn’t readily clear to me, though I can imagine if they don’t drain your account immediately, perhaps they save it for a future payoff, or sell the details to other scammers. I haven’t given them my bank account details, so I wouldn’t really know. I do, however, plan on contacting my bank and asking if they have any information on this type of scam. Perhaps they’ll let me set up a dummy bank account just for the sake of monitoring the attempted transactions, if that is even legal in my country. Here are the screenshots I received, these ones are relatively fresh. If you feel like posting any in response, this would be a good place.
If you plan on messing with them, please use the most abysmal grammar and spelling you can. Make it as hard as possible for them to scam in another language since their sentence structure is already garbage.
I encountered these guys long before I started scam baiting, and I didn’t understand the importance of screenshots when using grabify. However, from what I remember, Nigeria and Zimbabwe(?) were the hotspots if I’m not mistaken.
