So I recently became aware of the subpoena against BobRTC and Scammer.info, and wanted to ask what it meant for the users, what had to be done to keep a user safe, and if the site will continue to run. Thanks.
That’s old and the case is now dropped by them so no worries
@HauntingForce#183729 The lawsuit against defendant BobRTC has been dropped: American Automotive Solutions, Inc. v. Agruss Law Firm et al: ORDER : Plaintiffs motion to dismiss with prejudice its claims against John Doe 2, d/b/a BobRTC.tel, ECF No. [ 44], is GRANTED. John Doe 2 terminated. Signed by District Judge Rodney W. Sippel on 11/30/20.
However, they are still trying to go against Scammer.info and its owner but they can't because Thunder is residing in UK and they would have to get the lawsuit approved by a barrister of the crown (as far as I know) which is expensive and it seems like they're not doing that. So similar to the first lawsuit by MyPhoneSupport against Thunder, they won't have any success at all. The protection to its users is a big concern to the admins and it has been proven in the previous lawsuit by MyPhoneSupport. No user info has been given to them so nothing to worry.
BobRTC already improved the safety of its users and removed email-based registration to remove more potentially identifying information of its users (hence the transition to Matrix as sign in method) and also some other backend changes to be safe in case of another lawsuit like this in future.
Generally as word of advice, try to avoid tying your real life identity to your scambaiting identity. Create a new email address on e.g. Protonmail and use that one for anything scambaiting-related. Also, at least when registering at new sites and services, at least at the registration, use a VPN because most services log your IP when registering. This whole issue with the lawsuit just came up because it's an American extended vehicle warranty provider and, as a US-based company, they have the means to engage in legal litigation and the whole industry is a somewhat legal gray area. Indian scammers don't do this as they're full scammers, don't have enough money and don't care that much. There's one exception, MyPhoneSupport. But it ended really bad for them haha.
@NeeP#183779 Well I really appreciate the detail you went into, exactly the response I was looking for. I appreciate it, and will take all of your advice into consideration, as I’m changing my email for scammer.info now. Thanks!
