Student Loan Scam

19093243153 this is a student loan phishing scam. They are easily agitated and sound like they are based out of america. I get harassing calls from them almost daily i tried looking up their number and havent found anything, but if you ask what the name of their company is or how they reduce your debt they will hang up on you so the best way is to say you owe over 15k and see how much time you can waste making as far down the rabbit hole as possible.

@RundiRob#25348 how does the scam exactly work? Similar to IRS scam? They ask you to pay back the loan to them or they will send cops or so (even though you obviously didn’t take a loan from them) ?

The scammers might be from:

studenteducationcenter.org or 99premierservices.com
or some other variation

your number is in a lead generator database and gets distributed daily. what other scam calls do you get?

I cannot say weather these companies provide legit services or not, their business practices certainly are not clean. The use of robocalls and spoofed numbers Is prohibited by the FTC. The lead generator picks up the phone and transfers you to an "agent." These agents may be independent or not... they might be purchasing live transfers from the lead generator. These businesses may be legit, but practice predatory lending. They claim to offer debt forgiveness and the program is about to expire. What they offer is a payment plan over the course of several years (like 20) and then they say whatever balance remains is forgiven. Trust me, you will end up paying the full amount over that time.

So the marketing practices are illegal or just plain unethical. Their lending services are likely to be predatory (laws vary by state) and still possibly legal. When you ask them details about their business they will hang up, pretty much proof of a scam. No one should be expected to provide financial information to someone who can identify themselves. Another name for a scammer is an identity thief. Without talking to someone who has refinanced their debt with these people, it's not clear whether their services are real or not. It doesn't matter because the endless calls/voicemails/harassment continues along with predatory lending is enough to label them as a scammer.

Law enforcement will not act, unless a crime is committed. Even then, bad marketing practices and predatory lending is likely to be considered a civil case. And that is how these scammers are allowed to operate within the bounds of the law. The number posted will likely expire at some point.
