Last night I phoned this number. A man with the usual Indian accent answered, but to my surprise said “don’t you know what today is sir?” I told him it’s christmas Eve. He then was saying about how Jesus is important to him and that religion is important. We then began talking about politics and the rich and the poor. He was telling me stories of the people of his country and what they did to survive. Then he told and showed me his YouTube channel with a few thousand subscribers, and was explaining he hated scamming and would love to be a big youtuber. I heard Christmas celebrations in the background, and he told me about the celebrations in India and that he was doing secret Santa. I told him a bit about my hobbies, and after about 40 minutes of talking he said it was time for him to go, and gave me an email address. We both said goodbye and merry Christmas. This experience made me think about these scammers. They’re people too. We need to acknowledge that. This is why I’m going to try and find jobs for some of them, as I run a small business online and would love to get people involved and give them a more ethical job. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post but I just wanted to get my story out there, because when I was fucking around phoning scammers it never crossed my mind that they have lives, and that they don’t enjoy what they do. Yes they are people.We all think they are brainless scoundrels but maybe they scam because in India the jobs are hard to come by and scamming might only be the only option for them it’s not that they want to do it it’s just maybe they need to? maybe they can’t find a job because maybe there aren’t much to do in India.What I’m trying to say is put yourself in their shoes and live their life see how hard it is for them.
I understand we as humans make mistakes and bad choices but scamming innocent people for their money simply because their country doesn’t allow much job opportunities is not a valid excuse. Some people working in scam call centers realize what they’re doing is wrong. Not all of them are bad. They’re a few that are trapped into these scamming operations while others do it because they like it or actually think they are doing something legit cough mps. Intereresting call. Scam bpo owners take advantage of these people and need to be brought to justice.
