Earlier this evening an elderly friend who is in his mid seventies got a knock on his door from a couple who said their computer was hacked, and that their “app” shows that the hack came from my friend’s house. Of course he didn’t let them in, so they said they’d call the police. I advised my friend to do the same, since I thought that it was just a pretext to get in his house.
My friend called the PD, and as it turned out, the couple has indeed called earlier and filed a report. So a cop visited my friend so he could complete the report. My friend has no idea what's going on, the cop acted like he didn't know much about cyber crimes, and the couple told the cops they were "gamers" and now couldn't log on to their computer. I advised my friend to get a copy of the report and show it to me. He's not very computer savvy, if I may add.
Any ideas what this is all about?
