It is a gimmick the scammer use. Once you tell the number then you get a spoofed call from a fake Police officer/Sheriff ordering that you settle with IRS/CRA/SSA. Typical fake names they use are Nates Shaw and Hamas Marshall. In case of CRA the fake “officer” says he is from RCMP.
This adds to "fake authenticity" to unwitting victims
Thank you. That is sick. I ended up calling a sheriff department because Google voice showed them as missed call. Turns out they spoofed their number but never left message. The department had no idea what took place even after I explained it.
