SSA scammers. very active today Monday
@drwat#136942 Very werid… I called and got some lady with a very heavy Indian accent… she started down the usual path - when did you get the call, did they provide any additional info, can I have your name so I can pull up your file, etc… So I gave her a very plain vanilla name - nothing weird or unusual. She puts me on hold.
Here is the weird part - she gets back on the line and tells me that there is a problem with my NAME! She asked if it was my correct name, and that she could not pull it up as valid. WTF? To make sure, I asked "So that means that I probably received the recorded message in error and there really isn't any problem with my SSN"? She acknowledged that was most likely the case, apologized for the error and hung up!
How/why it happened? I don't know. Maybe I've used that name before on them and they have it written down somewhere. Maybe they don't like the fact that my CID doesn't have a name assigned to it. Maybe she just had a 'feeling' about me... who knows. But I guess it's time to come up with some new names anyway ;-)

@Otis#136949 I hope you did not use the “Otis” name. It is the most common Lift/Elevator company in India.
I think whatever name you gave her may be the clue.
@drwat#136956 I used “Peter Johnson” and was calling from Maryland. Time to retire that name I guess.
@Otis#136949 Yes, I would retire that name. Try Fake Name Generator. ; )
@drwat#136953 Great job as usual, my friend. ; )
@drwat#136953 @Otis#136959 She wanted my whole SSN. So we went round and round and I asked where she was and she said Baltimore. I said if I call the 800 number will they know who you are? She got all upset that she was going to lose me and said that she would call me back from the 800 number and I said good you do that and she swore at me and hung up. So professional.

@JusticeinTexas#136973 She wanted my whole SSN. So we went round and round and I asked where she was and she said Baltimore.
The one I got said she was in SSA headquarters in Washington! SSA admin is in Woodlawn, Maryland - so close but no cigar :)
Usually when they ask for a full SSN, I just give them the last 4. Most times lately they will just run with it without pressing for the full number. Whenever they insist I give a full SSN (for whatever bogus 'verification' reason they may come up with), I re-ask them "You said you were with the Social Security Administration, correct?". When they reply yes, I say I don't believe them as the SSA would never ask for a full SSN and it even says so on their web site - then hang up. I figure if enough people hang up because of that, they may figure they are loosing too many targets and let it go with just the last 4.
I also have pulled out my bogus Federal Employee Guidelines publication to quote, but that is fairly rare. The calls still usually getting hung up on, but it has worked once or twice. Don't want to overuse it though.
@Otis#136978 I use a verified number from SSN-verify.com. You have to make sure it matches with your birthday because I think they use the same site. Usually they do go with the last four but lately they have been really pushing for the whole number.
@drwat#136942 I had Logan on for 70 minutes…he went to Hardee’s with me and when he wanted a picture of my $60,000 dollars (able to withdraw in 2 minutes mind you) I called him bad names. He knew the whole time though that I was wasting his time. Call Mr Logan at 202-945-9003. Tell him Mr Gary said to call

@Otis#136978 @drwat#136942 I talked to Sophia Jones. I gave her my Latin name and she asked if I was Spanish. I said I was Hawaiian. I told her that this had happened 4 months ago and she wanted the whole story so I basically read them their own script. She had to put me on hold to find out what to do. I gave her an Ohio SSN and that really screwed her up. She said she had to investigate and that she would call me back. She was really confused as to what the heck to do. Really rude, too.
@Draco#136982 Got the same guy (Kevin Thomas) as well as a Jenny Dixon - both pressed for a full SSN. Kevin hung up at the very first instance that I objected. Jenny was a bit more persistent and let me know that they were not going to follow MY orders, and if I didn’t like it, I could just hang up. So I did.
I refuse to give out the full number. And yes, i generate them from the ssn-verify site - and even then, they usually won't get past them. I figure if I can get them to only accept the last 4, it will be a benefit to not just the scambaiters, but also potential victims - as that is one less piece of identification that they can use. Yes, I'm stubborn :)
@Otis#137011 I don’t think you are stubborn. I hate when they ask for the whole SSN. I go for the last four until I realize that they are not going to bend so I keep several on hand for a 19 year old, a 32 year old and a 70 year old from different states. They are so dumb that they do not understand that 70 year olds did not get a SSN until they started working or that someone can have a SSN in one state and live in another. Gee, if I was scamming, I would actually find out about how the stuff in the country I was scamming actually worked and make it sound real. They just cannot think for themselves and get off the script.

@JusticeinTexas#137015 They are so dumb that they do not understand that 70 year olds did not get a SSN until they started working or that someone can have a SSN in one state and live in another. Gee, if I was scamming, I would actually find out about how the stuff in the country I was scamming actually worked and make it sound real.
That is funny, because it's so true. I even checked my own SSN, and apparently according to ssn-verify, it's not valid! I guess my parents didn't file for my SSN until I was almost 10 years old and we had moved into two different states since i was born - So not only was the issue date inaccurate (according to my birthday), but the state where it was issued was as well (not where I was born).
I also love it when they ask you for the "Class" of your drivers license, like everybody knows or actually cares. I told them once that mine was a class "Z" because I had a motorcycle and they didn't even flinch. Once I told them it was a class "M" which allowed me to also drive a boat (I guess "M" stood for maritime), and "X" which allowed me to drive experimental vehicles including aircraft and submarines :)
@Otis#137018 I say yes my license has lots of class! I tried to verify my own SSN on that site and it got it wrong, too. Correct state but it said I was 79 years old. ; )
I was greeted with a tentative Hello. I was apologetic, my son told me to call this number because he received a message that I was in trouble. I asked what office is this and what is your name? He said he’s Officer Kelvin Smith of the Social Security Administration and he is in Baltimore, Maryland. He said it is my son, not me, who is in trouble, and he wants to talk to him. But he is 9 years old, how can he be in trouble with the SSA? He said my son was in a fight, that’s why he’s in trouble. Indignant, I asked if he’s making a prank call. He said yes, I am just prank calling you.
I told him that I lived in Texas and I owned a Toyota Corolla and I smuggled 22 pounds of cocaine and there was blood residue inside my Corolla. Are you familiar me me now? Denied he's a scammer, accused me of being an Indian prank calling them. Wanted to continue the conversation only if I spoke to him in Hindi. We went back and forth for a few more minutes, then he said nice talking to you and hung up.
