This one is pretty cleverly set up – there’s a pre-recorded greeting before you’re connected, “thanking” you for calling Social Security.
I'll be calling them back shortly to see what the length/flavor of their scam really is :)
So after a 30 min call with them, spoke to an Officer “Uttam Dhillon” (who I spoke to about a month ago – same script, just a different license plate number on the car) who is trying to squeeze all of the money out of you via Google Play gift cards.
He indicated that by transferring all of the money in your account (besides the required minimum to keep the account open) to a Google Play card, it's transferred to a "federal deposit security locker", and then in 24 hours I can go to the SSA office in "my area" to get a check for the same amount.
Called him out on the "federal deposit security locker" being associated with Refund scams and he seemed to backtrack quite a bit, told me I'd get a call back. We'll see if that happens.
BONUS: This is the call center run by “Officer Tim White” - Badge Number TCAK 101. Spoke to him about a month ago – told me he would quit scamming, clearly not a huge priority for him. I wish I had more know-how to figure out where these guys are calling from and get it shut down because this has been an exceptionally active call center.
