So im the guy who calls as many scammers as i can to hopefully get on a call list. Alot of the callbacks though is always my number with 1 number changed i know how they do this im curious why if anyone has an answer plz comment
@pent-up909#142740 This is because of a thing called number spoofing. You will be unable to call back these numbers. Additionally, are you calling these scams on your main phone? NEVER do this… It is bad, and the scammers can track you.
@ApplePie1000#142741 second that emotion😝
@pent-up909#142740 As mentioned, it is a spoofed number - but the reason it’s only a digit or two off from your phone number is so it appears to be a local call, which is more likely to be picked up by some unsuspecting victim. Most people will simply ignore a number out of there area code that is unfamiliar.
And as also mentioned, don't use your real phone number when calling them. The only time I will use my real number is when they call me on it and I have no choice - and those are almost entirely the zero interest rate guys who still haven't figured out that they aren't going to get squat from my number, even though they usually call 3-4 times a day and have done so for months.
Cheers,
Brad

How about for years instead of months? Seems that way to me, anyway. Over breakfast last Saturday one zero interest call came in, and when asked how much I owned on my "Master", I blurted out $15,000, pulling it out of thin air. Why are you lying, sir? Because you're a banchod, said I. He went on a bloody tirade for a good two minutes, with all kinds of swear words in Hindi and English. Made my day.

Honestly I can't remember how long they have been calling me, but years is probably closer to the truth. And I used to try and keep them on the line for as long as possible - but lately I just try to give them as much grief as possible - which usually results in fairly short (~10-15 minute) calls.
I normally ask them to hold then try to get them to help me fill in the complaint form on the Do Not Call Register website. That normally gets them to hang up pretty quickly. That or just letting it ring through to Lenny.
The tech support scammers haven't called my home number in a while. I think deleting 4,500 ish files of one of their computers may have dampened their enthusiasm.
