On May 11, 2026, police in Sonipat, India raided an illegal call center in the Bahalgarh area for facilitating “phantom hacker” scams against American nationals. How their scam worked was
- The scammers would call their victims under the false personation of bank officials and technical support representatives, falsely claiming their victims’ bank accounts were compromised.
- In order to “verify” their assets and receive “technical assistance,” the victims will be asked to transfer money to the scammers.
Three bhenchods were arrested:
- Mayank Hasiya from Omaxe City in Sonipat
- Ansh Pandey from Nangloi in Delhi
- Sahil Sharma from Burari in Delhi.
Police have also seized 3 laptops, 3 smartphones and $5,245.75 in Indian rupees.
