Scammers may be using Obituaries to identify vulnerable Individuals

In the vulnerability of losing both her husband (F’ing COVID) & her mother one week apart stressed & trying to settled both deaths the unauthorized Amazon purchase scam hooked her.

I'm starting to think that they are using obituaries to target individuals who are vulnerable elderly and likely to be in new possession of life insurance policies.

What's crazy is just prior to my dad's passing I had actually played her a Jim Browning YouTube video where I told her don't ever let anyone on the phone try to walk you through anything on the computer. She told these scammers she didn't have a computer just like instructed apparently I wasn't specific enough about the potential to do the same thing with her iPhone.

They used remote access on her iPhone and some sort of cash app and target app. They used the access to buy gift cards for xbox on Amazon then somehow transitioned to help us catch thief style. Then somehow sent her to Target to buy a gift card. She was so distraught I'm not sure she was able to accurately tell me everything that took place. When she turned around from target they used the remote connection to buy them anyhow online.

Over the last year both my wife and I have been paying it forward to our community absolutely exhausting ourselves working extra shifts in the ICU both nurses with covid patients, short staffed, and trying to give some of these people a chance. Then coming home to look after sick family members, an infant and a kindergarten home schooling. Losing a father to it and grandmother. Then having to deal with these jerks exploits. And hearing how they were psychologically abusive and yelling at my mother who had literally been crying for 2 weeks straight absolutely fills me with rage. I sincerely hope The group here is able to provide some justice and prevent these people from doing this kind of thins to others. Thank you for all of your help.

Hey there,

I've had to remove the numbers, they appear to be spoofed. Other than that, thanks for your story. Feel free to post any other scam calls you get on the forum and we'll do our best to get them down.
