So I called a scammer and I typed *67 before any of it. Does that hide my number? Also, could they track me down with my phone number?
It only hides for non-toll free calls but does not hide for toll free calls.
scammers use 1800 numbers but spoof local area numbers so you would pick up. Recommended: Don’t call anyone you don’t know with your personal number.
use firetrc.com simple and ez to use. make an account and then you get to spoof any number. go to settings and change the caller id to any number you want and the scammers will think that is your number.
You can also get a program called FireRTC Caller ID Changer to use with FireRTC. It’s a simple tray icon that makes life easier when wanting to redial quickly or troll at length. Also, yes, *67 blocks your number but not to 800/866/888/toll free numbers. They can’t find out who you are even if they have your real number, if you are using a cell phone. It is difficult to do so at least and scammers likely won’t spend the money or effort it takes. They’re harmless.
@topperharley37#35747 it may not hide your number on some toll free numbers you call. Often they do spoof local numbers because it may make some people pick up the call. Don’t call any of those numbers back on your phone even with *67. I use google voice and it’s a great program. There are other programs out there that work well for scambaiting.
@ThatWhiteGuyNamedLeroy#35938 Ok thanks, I did call them a couple more times but hey I don’t really care. But I’ll know next time in future, but they really deserve it. Some even cursed me out.
