Scammer Breaks Character

I just got off the phone with a scammer who completely broke character and we had a chat for about 3 minutes. I began the call with the usual prankster a**hole stuff. He got pretty quiet and said “I can’t deal with this sh*t”. I could tell, just by the tone of his voice that he was pretty fed up with the work he was doing. I told him straight up “you actually sound like a nice person” and that my main reason for messing with scammers is because of the fact that they prey on some of the most vulnerable people in society, like the extremely old and the gullible young. He said he has an age limit, (which idk if I believe that, but if that’s true then at least he has SOME standards, I guess). I basically said “Listen man, you seem like a nice guy, I can tell you’re not happy with the work you’re doing. I know covid hit India very hard but it’s been tough for all of us dude. I really hope you can find honest work sometime soon. I’ll let you get back to your job, as much as I disagree with it, but I hope your life starts moving in a positive direction.” He told me he really did appreciate that, then we wished each other well and hung up.

I'm going to continue messing with scammers, but this is about the third or fourth conversation like this that I've had with callcenter workers in the past week and all of them mentioned covid being the big reason they're doing this work. Seeing that little glimmer of humanity from these callcenter workers is a weirdly nice sensation, so many of them just don't give a single f**k and will say the most personally, racially or politically inflammatory things, hoping to get a reaction. Have any of y'all had a similar experience to this?

@HellaDank420#162306 After doing this for ten years, I can tell you that they are all liars. When I was younger and more impressionable, I fell for these stories. I had them text my burner thinking I could help them and all I got was a new scam about sending them money for a visa and plane ticket. They will lie and distort and twist you around their fingers. You will probably run into the same person again soon. They say boo hoo and I am leaving and more boo hoo and they never do. Please do not fall for it. It is all about the money.

@JusticeinTexas#162354 yeah, mostly what I figured. That’s why I’ll always continue to mess with them.

@HellaDank420#162306 hmmmm interesting …well ya but not fed up just nice in general… Bullshit with them try get secrets out of them … Location hang up tally boss man living conditions and voice att pass code number the like …

Kitboga just released a video where a scammer spoke to him like this too. Maybe it is part of some new tactic they’re using on prank callers.

@HellaDank420#162440 Most scammers are desperate for making money by scamming and if they aren’t getting enough, they are mad. This caller likely was reaching his ‘targets’ or reached them. So that could be a reason he/ she sounds nice and perhaps even ‘tolerate’ prank calls for some time. I’ve known instances where the scammers try to ‘beg’ and if the scambaiter/anyone refused, they ould change their tone to threatening and swear hard.
