I just got off the phone with a scammer who completely broke character and we had a chat for about 3 minutes. I began the call with the usual prankster a**hole stuff. He got pretty quiet and said “I can’t deal with this sh*t”. I could tell, just by the tone of his voice that he was pretty fed up with the work he was doing. I told him straight up “you actually sound like a nice person” and that my main reason for messing with scammers is because of the fact that they prey on some of the most vulnerable people in society, like the extremely old and the gullible young. He said he has an age limit, (which idk if I believe that, but if that’s true then at least he has SOME standards, I guess). I basically said “Listen man, you seem like a nice guy, I can tell you’re not happy with the work you’re doing. I know covid hit India very hard but it’s been tough for all of us dude. I really hope you can find honest work sometime soon. I’ll let you get back to your job, as much as I disagree with it, but I hope your life starts moving in a positive direction.” He told me he really did appreciate that, then we wished each other well and hung up.
I'm going to continue messing with scammers, but this is about the third or fourth conversation like this that I've had with callcenter workers in the past week and all of them mentioned covid being the big reason they're doing this work. Seeing that little glimmer of humanity from these callcenter workers is a weirdly nice sensation, so many of them just don't give a single f**k and will say the most personally, racially or politically inflammatory things, hoping to get a reaction. Have any of y'all had a similar experience to this?
