Sagar Sharma, Benjamin Alexander ARRESTED for facilitating "grandparent" scam

This past weekend, the Greater/Grand Sudsbury Police Service in Ontario, Canada arrested 26-year-old Sagar Sharma and 42-year-old Benjamin Alexander for facilitating a “grandparent” scam against an older female from Coniston. How their scam worked was:

  • Each of these “fees” were required to be handed over to designated money mules.

Sharma was arrested on Friday, March 14, 2025 and charged with

  • Two counts of fraud over $5,000
  • Two counts of personation with intent.

Alexander was arrested on Sunday, March 16, 2025 and charged with:

  • Personation with intent
  • Fraud over $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
