Ive been using a fake phone number on textnow to call scammers and i heard that they can track down my ip address. i dont know if this is true or not. if so then what can i use to protect it.
Only TextNow will have your IP address, the scammers can’t get your IP unless you connect them to your computer.
@thunder#65012 so im safe?
@lasallianrevolutionary#65013 Indeed you are. Come join the Discord if you want some more help from the community.
Scammers cannot get your IP address from your Textnow number. Only TextNow has your IP address.
Also, for most VOIP services, there isn't much public information that can be found from reverse phone lookup.
@thunder#65012 Is it safe to call them with your real phone?
@YeetyMcSkeety#65024 No! Never use any real info when calling scammers. You don’t know what they will do with it. There are many free services out there though
@lasallianrevolutionary#65010 They can’t get your IP address. But to be safe when they are connected to your VM try using a VPN
You want to make sure you use a number that has no association with you. Scammers have been known to SWAT houses, and call the authorities, saying there’s a hostage situation at your house, etc. The police dont know it, so they come guns blazing.
In short, stick to whats called a disposable number. Something that isnt tied to you, can be "washed" or thrown away, and you shouldnt have any issues. You can also use FireRTC for calls, too.
@reportingscammers007#65042 I tried signing up for FireRTC, but it says that they’re not accepting new accounts at this time. Do you know how long this lasts for?
@YeetyMcSkeety#65253 Its been about 2 weeks since they’ve stopped allowing new accounts. Unfortunately, the people behind FireRTC have not answered the forum questions about when new accounts will be created. I wish I could tell you when, but I have no idea.
Are there any alternatives?
Nothing like FireRTC @HACKERBILL#65302
TextNow would be the next best thing to use.
I have been using google voice, it seems good
