On February 21, 2025, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office in Florida arrested 28-year-old Indian National Rushabh Ahilbha Patel for serving as a money mule for an Apple tech support scam that started on February 3. How their scam worked involved:
The scammer sending a fraudulent text message under the guise of Apple, falsely claiming there were “unknown charges” on her account and urging her to call their “Apple Suppoat” number.
The scammers who answer the call will then falsely claim CHILD PORNOGRAPHY was on their victims’ computer before demanding $35,000 via wire transfer.
The victims will later be asked to withdraw $64,000 from their bank accounts so they can be handed off to two separate money mules, and an additional $75,000 at a later time.
Patel was arrested after driving away from a Chevron in a Toyota Corolla, and is now being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $35,000 bond.
