On April 2, 2025, the Simi Valley Police Department in California arrested 21-year-old Chinese-born West Covina resident Ruishan Liu for serving as a money mule for a bank impersonation scam where the victim, in this case an elderly man, was manipulated to withdraw and hand over $200,000 as a “bank security measure.” Liu is currently being held on felony charges at the Ventura Main Jail.
