Reporting scams

Ok to start, I plan to continuously update this thread as I learn of new resources and such. But I hope this is helpful.

Alright, so I see a lot of people asking how to report scams. It really depends on the type of scam, the platform it takes place on, and the content you are reporting. You might have some situations were you would have to go to the authorities. Now Im not going to cover how to report scams to your government for every country because I want to keep this thread as relevant for everyone as possible. Anyways to start,

Reporting content on social media can lead to (in some cases) accounts getting suspended or a temporary ban but it really depends on the platform. Most social media platforms have a report under a users profile, you can usually find a report feature there. Different platforms also handle reports differently. So for example, reporting a profile to Discord, provided you send them the message ID's, will in most cases ban the account. While on Facebook, your report is likely going to get ignored. That doesnt mean you shouldnt report profiles or posts though. A profile that gets enough reports can trigger a suspension on some platforms.

This is by far my favorite thing to do. Reporting scammers phone numbers in most cases will get them shut off. Scammers are quite stupid and will most of the time register all their numbers under 1 VOIP provider. What this means is once you report a number to their VOIP provider and they confirm its a scam, their entire account gets suspended. Including all their numbers. And any calls going on at the time of the suspension will drop. This works the best for fake printer support and such. Because with those scams, they like to use SEO to get people to fall for their scam. And usually they will paste the same number over and over on many different sites. That number gets shut off and now they just wasted all that time and will have victims calling a dead number.

What you want to do is find the carrier for the scammers phone number (This only works with US/CA numbers) and you then want to search online for the abuse email for that provider and send them an email with the number included. So for example if I found a scammer using a Text Now number, I would email bandwidth's abuse email saying "Hey, this (*Number*) is a tech support scam, or something along those lines. And usually within a few hours, the number goes down.

There are also alternative reporting methods that offer a more "vigilante" style approach. There's https://stopcallingme.ca/ and https://scammerblaster.com/.

Now if you were scammed or think you are are being scammed and charged through your card, what you want to do is immediately call your bank. Have them freeze your card and or hopefully stop the transaction before it goes through. And report that merchant as fraudulent. So if anyone else tries to give money to the scammers, the payment will get blocked.

This is what Im writing for now. As I mentioned at the begining I will continue to make revisions to this.

You can also use this site for finding the owner:

My understanding is it uses the same database.
