I am writing to share my recent experience with a tech support scam in hopes of warning others and preventing them from falling victim to similar fraudulent activities.
My printer was not working, so I searched on Google to call the printer company and came across this toll-free number 1 855 324 7676, when I called it claimed to be from a well-known tech company. Feeling concerned about the potential issue, I followed their instructions and allowed remote access to my device.
After a lengthy session, the caller quoted a service fee of $249 for the “fix,” which I foolishly paid, believing that I was safeguarding my computer. It became clear afterward that no legitimate fix was performed, and the entire interaction was a scam. Attempts to follow up with the phone number resulted in no response, and I realized I had been taken advantage of.
I urge everyone to remain vigilant when dealing with unsolicited tech support calls and to verify the legitimacy of any claims before providing personal information or making payments. Here are a few tips to avoid similar scams:
Don’t trust unsolicited numbers: Always be wary of unfamiliar numbers claiming to be tech support.
Verify the phone number: If you get a call on a number, hang up and contact the company directly using a verified phone number from the company’s official website.
