Then they should freaking reach out and investigate. They are complicit and in my opinion endorse these scams (as can be seen by their rat-ass search engine) in the name of self profit.

These GoogleFi numbers are a new thing and a fucking wonderful thing to scammers. These accounts are being compromised or whatever, but the end user is at the literal end of Google caring for the user at all.
Google accounts are the favorite for scammers to hack because they are just so easy to hack to begin with! Infuriating because Google is just so huge, nobody can touch them.
