Quick question about scammers calling back on my no caller ID number

I call scammers on an anonymous google voice number. A few of them called back, without me sharing my number. How is this possible? Just wondering if this is a bad thing, don’t know if i should be worried

, I use *67 or “Anonymous Calling” as google voice says, which hides your caller ID.

Because… they saw your caller id and called it back. You automatically “share your number” with the called party.

@Zachinquarantine_#182990 No, I use *67 or “Anonymous Calling” as google voice says, which hides your caller ID.

When you register with Google Voice, they give you a caller ID. When you call someone, they can see that ID and call that ID back as they wish, which connects to your Google Voice phone. It’s as simple as that.

@polish_sausage#182997 If I use anonymous calling which hides your caller ID to anyone, how can they see it?

@Flidays#182999 star67 or star69 or whatever doesn’t work on google voice

@Zachinquarantine_#183003 Yeah I know. You use a thing called anonymous calling which hides your caller ID

@Flidays#183004 they can still trace the call back

@Zachinquarantine_#183005 Alright. The number I got was an area code from new jersey. Could they still trace that I’m near california?

AFAIK, you cannot completely block your CID. For example, it is my understanding that when you call a 800 number, they will see your CID regardless. But if you use a number with a New Jersey area code, and you are in California, then I don't see any problems. It's not like they will come looking for you, but even if they do, they aren't going to find you in Jersey ;-O

Otis is correct, regardless of what platform specific features you use (like “Anonymous Caller ID”, or *67 on a land-line/cell phone), such features do not work on toll-free phone numbers (800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877 and 888) since they pay your carrier for the call and need to see where it came from. (The toll-free and Privacy categories of the following article can provide more information: Automatic number identification - Wikipedia). Otis is also correct in saying that, since you are already using a separate Google Voice phone number to make calls, a “disguise feature” isn’t really even necessary.

And @Flidays#183022, unless they contact Google and successfully subpoena them for your account's information (something they won't and essentially can't do successfully), they will not be able to find any more information about you unless you give it to them yourself.

Use textnow and 2nd line then u can be worry free
