I was reached out to by three random ass people on Telegram the other day and today about doing tasks for money, and I’ve heard about task scams before, but I am unsure how they work.
How do they work, and were is the part where they scam you?
Task-based scams promise easy money for simple online tasks like liking videos or rating products, but ultimately trick individuals into paying to access supposed earnings, which never materialize
I should also mention:
they did pay me $10 ETH, and I am in a groupchat with 500 others doing “tasks”
They always give you a starting amount in your “personal web account”, sometimes the amount is cash but most often it is in some sort of untraceable, anonymous cryptocurrency.
Your fake personal task account pays real very small amounts for each fake “minor task”, and there have been many instances where people have cashed out and actually made insignificant amounts of profit. They larger tasks, which occur at random along the fake transaction journey, require you to forgo capital from your account in order to complete the fake task, which it deducts and eventually it will require you to make a deposit into your account to continue accessing more of the higher value tasks. They prey on people believing there’s light at the end of the tunnel after they continue to add more capital to their accounts, which always ends up going further into the negative the longer they continue.
