I was planning on setting up a virtual machine to mess with the scammers, but I just wanted to know, do I need a VPN setup with it too? Should I be worried about my network when connecting it to the VM?
@Hypertive#141198 VPN is definitely recommended, any way to protect yourself from scammers harvesting data on you is recommended. However, if you’re using a VM and not using a bridged network connection to your host machine the chances of them being able to access your device, or other devices on your network.
One suggestion I'd make that many others overlook is simply change your Admin password for your router. Most default logins are the same across a single brand, this could allow a scammer to setup remote connection to your router and login at a later time.
If you are looking for the safest route a VPN is definitely a way to go. Personally I use https://www.expressvpn.com as it has the best speeds in my area.
@lecter#141199 Thanks for the information. Do you know of any good free ones?
@Hypertive#141201 I use Proton VPN, its free but works good for me. You can also consider Windscribe VPN.
