PSA: Please provide context/additional Information!

Its really hard for scambaiters to… well… scambait when there isnt any context, and just a number I will provide a Good Example and a Bad Example to make sure you get the idea

Bad Example
(833) 729-9645 paypal
additional information: angry scammers

Good Example
(808) 674-0964 Paypal, LG Smart TV for $799.99
Got an email from “paypal” for a smart TV that was 799.99. Order number is GH684TO.They might not pick up on the first try btw, i called twice. Here is a screenshot from the email (this is optional, as long as you provide good context)

Thanks everyone, and good luck out there!

Often times we don’t have that info. There are a lot of sources that we use to get numbers and, often times, the number is the only information that we can garner. Calling may yield what type of scam is being run and we don’t always have a way to get the exact amount, an order number or other information.
In those cases, I believe that it is best to post what information we have and the community can post any additional information they may gather in the thread.
In short, I believe that it is better to post the number with the available information than not post it at all.
Of course if more info is known, folks should post it.

I agree! And even sometimes you get a invoice for GS, you call them and they could be any other thing than GS. Sometimes they answer as "just support’ or “thank you for calling” And if you don’t tell them what they want to hear they hang up on you, and either block your number or write it down so they can be prepared for it. And if your looking for invoices of any sort there’s plenty on here. You can make up a BS number and they’ll go with. And just remember all of us are adults and have been doing this for a long time. So we really don’t like other individuals “telling” or “showing” us how to do it won’t go anywhere. And like @MajorLeeAwesome said we don’t always have the info we need or would like to have. And most of the time they don’t even ask your an amount, and if they do, say the only thing I have is an order or product. You can get really far with some of these guys.

And the ways I’ve seen numbers formatted:
)888-888)888
808 808 808
808-808-808
808808808
808.808.808
8O8-8o8-808
808 808-808

I agree. We are a pretty crafty bunch of baiters. Making up an order number works for me almost all of the time. I have nearly 100% success by saying something like: "My wife got the message and left a note that I ‘need to call geek squad about a charge and just left this phone number’ or something similar.
Or I tell an Amazon or PayPal scammer something to the effect of “I need you to look at my account and tell me what’s going on.” And they do it with my fake name and email and I get info from them.
