Google does not have their own portal to report abuse to, in terms of Google Voice numbers.

More people on scammer.info should start reporting phone numbers used for fraud. Regardless of what your beliefs are with telecoms, the more numbers get reported by real people, the higher the chance they get shut down. Send your screenshots and other evidence to the email address when ready. Remember, because scammers are buying these numbers through complicit wholesalers (most cases) they are paying these wholesalers a lot of money for these numbers because they are bypassing KYC. The wholesalers set up the accounts for the scammers, so whenever these get shut down, that’s a huge expense that they don’t get refunded. We’re talking 4 figures for a number and an account. It also raises the possibility of the wholesalers getting booted from the telecom’s network due to so many fraud reports being linked to one wholesaler. Fight back. You can call and waste the scammers time, swear at scammers, etc… but what they really hate aside from people tying up their lines, is losing the phone numbers due to the high cost.
Hi, Tim. Do you know how to tell the difference between MS Teams numbers vs. numbers assigned to other Sinch resellers? Whenever I look up some scammers’ numbers from Sinch, I am only seeing that they’re Sinch numbers and nothing is indicating that they’re MS Teams. If there is some helpful tool that you use, I’d be interested in learning about it. It is also unfortunate that there is no way to report scams directly to Microsoft…
There is no way of telling as all data points back to Sinch/Onvoy.
Ring Central also uses Onvoy for their residential numbers. For RingCentral, you can tell because they always use the same hold music.
For MS Teams, there is no hold music. 9/10 times, a refund scam with a fake invoice are all on MS Teams.
The real trick when using the Sinch webform is to submit evidence to them, but you can’t by default. The get around this, upload the screenshot to Google Drive and paste the link in the comments section of the webform and tell them that they can find the screenshot advertising the number in that link. Sinch doesn’t take action. They will send the report to Microsoft who will then take action a full day later. Make sure you make the link public.
The same applies to any number that registers as Onvoy. Many different telecoms use Onvoy numbers. The only difference is that some will state the name of the telecom, like Text Now for example, while MS Teams and RingCentral do not. MS Teams also have the same disconnection messages.
MS teams has 2 different disconnection messages: “You’re not set up to use this calling feature. Please contact your admin” and “Sorry. The number you requested is no longer in service”
Alright. This is very helpful. Thank you for sharing this information. I’ve been very frustrated with Sinch’s form, as it does not allow a complainant to upload any evidence. This is a great workaround with the Google Drive that you’ve shared.
One last thing. State your time zone in the body of the report. Sinch’s webform defaults all reports to central time. In the body of the report, state your timezone (EST, Central etc..)
Any number that comes back as “Onvoy Spectrum LLC” means it’s a number on Talkatone and Talkatone refuses to do anything about fraud. This is why Sinch and other telecoms like Bandwidth not stepping in directly is so important. Other telecoms are also in the wholesaler market but they step in and block numbers, like Lumen and IP Horizon. Sinch and Bandwidth refusing to step in directly is why they have so much abuse on their networks. Best of luck to you.
