On January 15, 2025, a federal grand jury charged three people with defrauding elderly American authors out of almost $44 million by convincing them that publishers and filmmakers wanted to turn their books into blockbusters for a fee. The individuals charged were:
- Gemma Traya Austin, a Chula Vista resident who organized and served as the registered agent for PageTurner, Press and Media, LLC.
- Michael Cris Traya Sordilla, a Filipino resident who founded the BPO company Innocentrix, which is based in the 5th floor of the ADG I.T. Center on Lopez Jaena St., Subangdaku Mandaue City, Cebu Philippines, 6014.
- Bryan Navales Tarosa, another Filipino resident and the Innocentrix Vice President of Operations.
Sordilla and Tarosa were arrested in San Diego on December 9, 2024 and Austin was arrested in Chula Vista on December 12, 2024 on conspiracy charges of money laundering and committing wire and mail fraud. Their website, pageturner.us, was seized as a result.
