Outbound Refund Calls in Tech Support

I want to start a discussion here about the refund calls that are being made to customers. Wish I could be a scam baiter, but as I’m an Indian, they recognise my accent. As the police have started raiding these fake tech support companies, they are moving towards refund scams.

A refund scam does not require a website or a Toll free number. They just buy a skype subscription and start calling US and Canada customers. I have noticed that 90% of these scammers target US and Canada because of the cheap call rates and mobile apps available for free calls to US and Canada.

Data is something that are really expensive. A simple phone number costs a minimum of $2 and a maximum of $15. And the amount of sale they do on these calls is big. As big as $30,000. Payment medium of course WU, Gift cards, Moneygram.

WU has become an easy medium nowadays. The scammers get the credit card information from the customer, they do a black screen using Team Viewer, and they push the card through for $500. The customer may or may not receive a one time password on phone. But the scammers are smart enough to take the one time password. Dats all they need. They have the WU pickup guy ready and the money is collected in a matter of minutes. Once they collect the $500, they go for big amounts. By the end of the call, the customer gets poorer by atleast $1500.

The outbound refund scam is mostly run in Kolkata, India but also increasing in Delhi NCR, India too.

Even Vonage data is sold for $2 each. Dats like raw data consisting of thousands of numbers.

Any suggestions guys to stop this outbound shit.
