I was able to get some information about these scammers thanks to a pop-up number. It seems to be a reletively big organization and they are truly nasty. It’d be great if we could hit these guys and hit them hard, hit them where it hurts.

I recommend asking to speak with "Jake" a level-1 techneeshun. He is pretty hateful and gets upset easily.

Have fun!

I GOT THE SAME POP UP PLSSS GET BACK TO ME ASAP I NEED MORE INFO

Something happened to me tonight and I really hope you can give me some insight. My dad is pretty old and not tech-savvy, he called me in tonight saying somethings wrong on his computer and he was on a call with someone. His computer had a lot of pop-ups and the speaker kept playing “network connection is not secure pls contact service number” he said the was a pop up ( supposedly a Microsoft pop up) that provided a number to call. I took over the phone call because I could better handle situations like these. This guy named John with an Indian accent said my network connection was not secure and 31 people got ahold of it in Dublin Ireland. They’ve been monitoring the computer for a few weeks and today they tried stealing our identity but (sorry I’m paraphrasing because I don’t entirely remember it was a very stressful situation) some program on my computer, possibly Microsoft or Norton stopped it and shut it down making their attempt unsuccessful. He aid they probably got in from a misclick on an ad. That’s when the pop up came on the screen with the phone number appears. He said they were surveilling banking and shopping and told me the next steps to take. He said I needed to clean my network, and other things, because it was compromised and he could do that for me. Btw we were screen sharing. The cost was $249.99. I was suspicious but I was so stressed out I wanted to do anything to make it stop. I gave him the banking info so I could be charged with the service. He said his company is onlinecare24.com. I couldn’t do any proper research until after everything was done. He then said I need a firewall and transferred me to this guy named David who also had an Indian accent. Frankly, they sounded the same. This was when deep down in me I got scared because I remember watching a video of this police Sargent getting a phone call from a scammer who said they will patch her to a supervisor but it was the same guy just changed the name and accent a little. BTW apparently David is with a “sister company” called MEK TECH WISE. David gave me the options for firewalls and I chose one that I thought the best fit. It was $599.99. He proceeded to charge me with the service. He told me it was a lifetime warranty in case something happens in the future and then proceeded to write up a document which is kinda like a contract. He gave me it in pdf form, email, and printed in from my commuter because of screen sharing. Then patched me to the technician named Mike. His company now is HELPNETPRO. The same case again Indian accent sorta same voice. Whats sus is that you’d think 1 out of three people who have an Indian accent would have probably an Indian name. I don’t mean to sound ignorant but the names they have were just the plainest sus-est names ever. but I gave it the benefit of my doubt. The technician said it would take about 40 minutes to install the firewall. Fast forward I was charged close to $1000. I forgot to mention they split the payment into two. One being 499.99 and the second being $449.99. But apparently, the second one got declined and they charged me again. The computer seems fine now but I’m terrified with doubts. Such as what if there was never a problem and THEY were the problem making up a situation how my network connection was compromised and all my devices connected to my network are at risk and offered me these services but in reality is a scam. IDK WHAT TO DO!!! I immediately canceled my card so they won’t further charge me of anything. BUT IM MORTIFIED. They said I will be receiving a call from one of their reps to confirm the computer has no problems, everything is running smoothly, and the payments have been processed tomorrow. I’m terrified because I don’t know if they are scammers or legit, is my computer, network, devices, banking, email safe? Am I out almost a grand for no reason. I’m spirling. I don’t no how to proceed from here and what do I say to them tomorrow. Please if you have any insight get back to me asap.

@marywldrn#127574 If you gave money to these people, you were scammed.

This is not a legitmate organization, there was never anything wrong with your computer, and these "warning" pop-ups are nothing but scams. Your computer did not have "viruses" or "hackers on your network". They are not real technicians, they are scammers.

They most likely showed you some Event Viewer errors which is something that is on every computer. It is not a virus and it is completely normal and not a problem.

They also probably opened the command prompt and typed the "tree" command. It runs through abunch of text and code and whatnot really fast, they pretend that it is a "virus scan" but in reality it does absolutely nothing. Sometimes they also type things such as "firewall error" in the command prompt, but again, it was the scammers that typed it out themselves. It wasn't an actual virus scan.

The things that they told you, such as "hackers are connected to your network", well they tell that to every single one of their victims. They use a script. They are not technicians and in reality they know very little about computers.

So yes, you were scammed and all the information you gave them is in jeopardy. I would highly recommend changing all of your passwords.

Also the remote control software they had you install, UNINSTALL IT IMMEDIATELY !!! These scammers will often watch you through your webcam and literally spy on you. Plus with the remote control software, they have access to your computer anytime it is turned on.

You should immediately call your credit card company or bank and tell them the situation.

These people are criminals and you gave them a lot of personal information. They keep all of your information and they will sell your information to other scammers.

So PLEASE immediately call your bank / credit card company, change your passwords, uninstall the remote control software, etc.

If you are in need of more help, I would recommend creating a new thread on this website. Also, please do research into these types of scams and then educate your friends and family !
