HIGHLIGHTS FROM VIRTUAL MACHINE BAIT:
- The scammer answered as Norton and hung up when I said I received a text message and not an email. I then called back and “Gary” claimed my computer came with a Norton subscription preinstalled.
- As my “subscription” was “red flagged” for fraud, I was asked to “open the Microsoft Edge” and go to fz.l24.help (Code: 83182, IP: 45.148.244.78
). - Once “Gary” remotely connected to my virtual machine, he blanked my screen with a fake software update as he pulled up a “cancellation form” and asked me to write down the transaction number (72786692).
- As their first form required me to log into my Google account, “Gary” gave me a second form that falsely claimed they were “BBB-accredited,” and asked me to log into my nonexistent bank account. Since I don’t do online banking, “Gary” claimed to have sent an email, so I made him mad with the Bhenchod Song.
