HIGHLIGHTS FROM VIRTUAL MACHINE BAIT:
- The scammer, "Alex (ID: 4188) will claim your computer came with a free trial of a Norton subscription that was auto-renewed, prompting you to cancel by “opening the Google Chrome” and go to xmhelp.info (IP: 193.233.203.148
), an iFrame of alter1.top (IP: 85.239.33.140 Code: 81344). - Once “Alex” remotely connected to my virtual machine, I was asked to open my email. I told him I only access these emails over the phone, so he had me fill out his “cancellation form.” My virtual machine crashed once the remote connection occurred, so I had to restart and “open the Google Chrome” once more.
- After I completed the form, which “Alex” claimed was “sent through the FTC” and “issued to the Better Business Bureau,” I was asked to log into my online bank account. Since I don’t have an online bank account, “Alex” had me register for an account, so I played him the Bhenchod Song.
